Follow me on my journey to health with the 21 Day Fix Extreme!
August 4, 2015
Hi Everyone! I know it’s been a month since I last blogged, time sort of gets away from me. Sorry!!
So I’m all recovered from my sinus surgery, finally. I still have a little bit of tenderness on the bridge of my nose, but that’ll go away in time. I’ve had a bit of a hard time getting back into a regular workout schedule. Some of my old, bad habits sneaking back in on that one! Thanks to my accountability partner, when I said I was too tired to work out last night, she said – Oh No! We are working out and doing CIZE tonight! (Thanks Kathleen!)
What’s CIZE, you ask? You thought I was doing the 21 Day Fix Extreme Challenge? I am doing both! CIZE is an amazing cardio workout that gets me sweating buckets by the end but also works your leg and arm muscles at the same time. Not the same as with the weights in 21DFX, but my muscles are sore today from dancing my fat away!
I’m pretty excited because I signed up to become a Certified BeachBody CIZE Instructor and my class is in September! This means that I will be able to teach CIZE in gyms, dance studios and anywhere else I can gather a group of people who want to get fit.
CIZE is the End of Exercise and even if you have zero rhythm or dance ability, you can do this!! Want to join in the fun?? Come CIZE it up with me!
This is MY Fit Journey. What’s yours?
July 1, 2015
Hi Everyone! So I had my sinus surgery last week Tuesday and was off work until today. Nice little break, but it’s good to be back to a productive life. My doctor set all kinds of limitations for my first week after surgery. No housework, no lifting anything over 10#, no swimming, no hot tub. Basically be a vegetable and sit on the couch. Well, I did the best I could, but I did do some laundry and dishes. Mark and the kids were absolutely wonderful during my recovery! They took excellent care of me and I’m so grateful to them for it. ❤
I still can’t work out though for at least one more week. Two tops. I go see the doctor next week Wednesday and hopefully he’ll lift ALL of my restrictions.
I was really surprised when I stepped on the scale this morning when I got to work. (I work in a machine shop and we have a huge scale out in the shop that I weigh in on Monday through Friday to keep my progress on track). I was very surprised to see I only gained 0.5# since last week Monday. Considering I’m not working out and I didn’t eat very clean this week, and of course the bread. I ate so much rye bread with rye dip it’s not funny. Or healthy, I’m sure. But the bread was soft and the dip was cool on my throat, which was sore for an entire week after being intubated for my surgery.
But I digress.
Because I had begun a healthy lifestyle BEFORE my surgery, and I gained muscle and lost fat, I was able to MAINTAIN my weight loss during my recovery. I’m so excited to be where I am health-wise. I’m 44 years old and I feel better than I have in years!
This is My Fit Journey! What’s yours?
Day ??? – May 27, 2015
I say Day ??? because I’ve had injuries and migraines that have put me off the every day routine of working out. BUT – I’m still working out and eating better. I’ve been waylaid by a utility knife that I accidentally stabbed into my left hand (sucker wouldn’t stop bleeding for almost an hour), migraines that left me unable to work out and a surprise case of Bursitis in my left elbow (my poor left arm!).
I went to see a Doctor this month for my migraines, but he just wanted to give me a sleeping pill and some steroids to ‘reset’ my brain into not getting migraines anymore. What an idoit. Never took the time to try and figure out what was actually wrong with me, just wanted to drug me up! No way! Instead, I took Mark’s advice and went to see an ENT. Boy am I ever grateful to him for suggesting that because a CT Scan of my sinus’ revealed a large cyst in my left sinus, a polyp in my right sinus, a deviated septum, a bony spur digging into an area riddled with nerve endings and an air bubble in my septum. All causes of headaches and migraines. I’ll be having sinus surgery on June 23rd to fix all of these issues that have been the cause of my migraines for close to 30 years. I finally have hope of a headache pain free life! Thank You Mark!!! The surgery will further delay my exercise routine – Doc says I can’t exercise for 3 WEEKS!! Ugh. Well, I can still eat better!
Going back to my 21 Day Fix Extreme results…..23 days since I began my journey to better health, I’m 8-1/2# lighter than before and I’m fitting into jeans that I haven’t worn in 2 or 3 YEARS! I’d say this is a HUGE success thus far. I’m most certainly not done yet! Yes, I’ll be laid up at the end of next month for a couple weeks, but I’ll be right back in the exercise saddle as soon as I can afterwards. I like that it’s broken down into a 21 Day period. I just start over and keep losing weight and getting fit.
I love how I feel now! I am beginning to like how I look again. Soon enough, I’ll love how I look again!
Before starting the 21 Day Fix Extreme Challenge Pack, I tried both Weight Watchers and It Works! and NEITHER of them worked for me. I don’t like taking a bunch of pills to swallow up the fat I’ve just eaten or speed up my metabolism to burn calories and I certainly don’t have the memory or time to wrap my belly, arms, chin AND legs to try and release the toxins and make me TEMPORARILY thinner. (I actually SOLD It Works! so I know what I’m talking about here). Weight Watchers was a lot of measuring and just didn’t work for me.
The 21 Day Fix Extreme Challenge WORKS for me because it’s NO BULLSHIT. It’s hard work! Do I sweat when I work out? Hell yes! Do my muscles scream at me while I’m working out and am I sore the next day? ABSOLUTELY! Do I think Autumn may be secretly trying to kill me with her repetitions? Possibly. But I can do ANYTHING for 1 minute! And you know what? I’m stronger, leaner and lighter than I have been in more years than I care to remember. I have color coded containers that I put my food into so I know exactly how many fruits, veggies, proteins and fats I need to eat every day. Wicked easy to pack my lunch now, that’s for sure!
This is a lifestyle change for me, one I never thought I could or would make. I love cheese. Oh, how I love cheese. Sharp cheddar to be specific. But, I love not being out of breath more. I still have my sharp cheddar, it’s just portion controlled and on my lunch salad every day instead of smothering lime flavored tortilla chips with it and topping with sour cream. Yes, that was my nighttime snack of choice. And I felt like crap the next day after eating that – every time, without fail.
Start YOUR 21 Day Fix Extreme Challenge TODAY and I’ll HELP YOU obtain your weight loss and fitness goals!
Day 2 – May 5th, 2015
Yesterday was Day 2 of our 21 Day Fix Extreme workout and meal plan. I say ‘we’ but I’m actually the only one who signed up for this. I sort of roped Kathleen into this by telling her she would be my accountability, because if there comes an evening that I don’t want to work out, she’ll still show up at my door and push me to do it.
Last night we did the Upper Body Extreme workout and though it was hard, it was easier on my heart. PiYo is a TON of cardio and really got my heart going so fast that at times, I thought it was going to run away without me! Upper Body Extreme focuses on your entire upper body. We did a lot with both our light and heavy weights (5# & 8#) and our exercise bands. My shoulders were on fire and shaking during some of the moves, but all I kept thinking about was back fat and how much I hate it. Every move that worked my upper body and my shoulders was working to whittle that ugly back fat away. I’m going to rock my tank tops and bathing suit this summer if it kills me! Well, it won’t kill me, but it sure will put me through the paces.
I’m very excited to be on this journey to better health! I’m not eating perfect, but I’m eating so much better than I have in a very long time, so I FEEL better! It’s true, what you put in your body is what you’re going to get out of it. I was putting junk and I was getting junk out by being sedentary most of the time and tired because of my added issue with Hypothyroidism. Now I’m putting good food in and working out and I FEEL BETTER! I have more energy and I’m able to sleep all night without waking up at all. That’s huge for me because I’m a sucky sleeper.
Why not join me today and start YOUR journey to getting YOUR HEALTHY BACK? I’ll answer your questions about the program and you can also visit my website to check it out and start your own journey to health. I’ll be with you every step of the way! http://www.beachbodycoach.com/MissyRay44
Day 1 – May 4th, 2015 – The Workout
So, Kathleen and I set out to tackle our Day 1 workout – PiYo Extreme. Holy canoli – as I said before – I think Autumn was trying to kill us. I was a bit worried I’d be so out of shape and Kathleen would be so much more in shape than I, that I would be suffering while she was breezing through it. Well I was wrong. Halfway through our first move, she was already hurting too. Boy did I feel better! Not that she was in pain, but that I wasn’t SO far gone, but closer fitness-levelwise, to her. I wasn’t going to have to huff and puff alone.
The workout was pretty hard and I had to sit down a couple times during our quick rest periods. That’s OK though. It was SO MUCH MORE than what I’ve been doing for exercise, which was basically nothing except walking the dogs at night and let’s face it, with a Pug-Pom and a Shih-Tzu, I’m not walking that fast and we’re taking frequent stops at pretty much every tree.
After our workout I had to go to Wegman’s. Yep, all sweaty in my workout clothes and red in the face, I went grocery shopping. But you should’ve seen me power walking throughout the entire store, since I was still pumped from my workout! I’m sure I was a not very pretty site. I don’t care. I’m not there for anything but to buy food.
Speaking of food – with the 21 Day Fix Extreme we have a meal plan and these pretty cool containers that show what the actual portions for each food group should be. Red for protein, purple for fruits, green for vegetables, blue for healthy fats, orange for salad dressings and yellow for carbs. Plus you get a 30 day supply of Shakeology! Shakeology is a superfood smoothie that you can get in a variety of flavors. I chose vanilla for this first time but next time I’m trying the chocolate vegan. You can add fruit to your shake to make it a delicious smoothie and get in a helping or two of fruits for your day. It’s pretty good and I like to drink it in the morning, since I’m totally NOT a breakfast eater. At least I’m getting all my prebiotics and probiotics for the day!
Well I’m getting hungry, it’s morning and I haven’t eaten yet so I’m going to go make my Shakeology vanilla shake and get on with my day! See you tomorrow!
Day 3/Day 1 – May 4th, 2015
Yeah, I know. I’m missing a couple days in between Day 2 and Day 3. I ended up having a 2-1/2 day migraine and subsequent Dr appointment for it, and I got off track.
So, I’m starting over with today being my Day 1! This time, I have a friend joining me in the workouts. Kathleen and I will work out together every evening, and help to keep each other accountable. Accountability is HUGE when you’re trying to do something that takes work. It doesn’t need to be a fitness and nutrition regimen. It could be that book you started writing, but let go after the first chapter. It could be a quilt you started making but stopped after a couple rows. ACCOUNTABILITY will HELP you REACH YOUR GOAL!
I’m pretty excited to be back at it, honestly. After 2 days of eating cleaner, (hey – I’m not perfect), I felt like total crap eating like I used to. Today I had my big salad for lunch, with delicious garlic & onion croutons, feta cheese and ranch dressing. How can I eat that and it be good for me? Send me a message and I’ll tell you how! TeamGetYourHealthyBack@gmail.com is my email address! Ask me your fitness and nutrition related question and I will work to help YOU get YOUR Healthy Back!!
Day 2 – April 28th, 2015
Well it wasn’t the best eating day, but I’ll improve. I can’t quit cheese cold turkey, ya know? Cheese is definitely my kryptonite. I always justify it as the only dairy I eat.
My first day, (Monday) I only did the Ten Minute Trainer, behind my desk, on my lunch break. I have about 3 square feet – maybe – but I did it anyway! Then 8 minutes in, the power goes out and my computer shuts off. So, I just jogged in place as fast as I could, to finish the last 2 minutes. Last night (I’m writing this on Wednesday) I did the first day of the 21 Day Fix Extreme workout – PiYo Fix Extreme. Holy handbags Batman – I thought Autumn was trying to kill me! I had to modify a few of the exercises and I even had to sit a couple out. I’m not in the best shape and my heart was pumping like crazy, to the point that I thought it was going to jump right out of my chest! So, I sat down and rest for a minute and then jumped back in – literally jumped back in! The day one workout, PiYo Fix Extreme, is a LOT of leg work, jumping, and lunging while holding weights. (I have 5 pound weights but will need to get a heavier set as well). It’s 30 minutes long, with short mini breaks for water and breathing, but it REALLY WORKS!
Today I FEEL my muscles – actually feel them – and not because I’ve been sitting behind my computer desk for too long and tried to get up and walk feel them. They already feel stronger! My abs are contracted today and I’m not doing it consciously, it just happened all on its’ own. Who knew?
Who knew that just ONE DAY could make a difference? Well that one day is going to turn into two days, then three and so on, and so on, until I complete my 21 Day Fix Extreme! As of this morning I am 1-1/2 pounds lighter than I was on Monday when I started! That’s 6 sticks of butter, if you want a visual.
I hope you’ll follow me on my journey and if YOU want to get YOUR healthy back, stop by my website and let me guide you on your way! www.beachbodycoach.com/angelnails
Day 1 – April 27th, 2015
Today is the first day of my nutrition/fitness regimen. I’m going to be doing the 21 Day Fix Extreme Challenge with an old friend from high school, Kelly Ardillo Carroccia. She’s a Team Beachbody Coach and over the past year has lost 42 pounds, all with 13 herniated discs in her back! I’ve been watching her progress and reading her posts on Facebook, and as I’ve reached my all time highest weight, I decided to take control of my nutrition and fitness and get my health back!
One thing that has accentuated my weight gain is the fact that I have Hashimotos & Hypothyroidism. Your thyroid controls your pituitary gland and how you metabolize everything you eat. Without exercise and eating right, the thyroid struggles to maintain a healthy weight. An unhealthy weight, in turn, makes my joints ache and my muscles stiff. I work as an Office Manager during the day, so I’m sitting in a chair behind a computer desk 8-9 hours a day, 5 days a week. There are times I don’t get out of my chair for a couple hours at a time and when I do, it takes me a minute to get moving.
I’m only 44 years old. I shouldn’t be walking like I’m 90.
Today that changes.
I’m going to use my blog as my food and fitness diary and to keep accountable not only to myself, but to all of you as well. I want to be healthy. I want to wear my smaller jeans again and to not get winded walking up the stairs. Heart disease and Diabetes run in my family and I do not want to fall victim to that.
As soon as the mail gets here, I will have my 21 Day Fix Extreme package and will be able to officially get started. But I’m going to make my first entry here anyway.
Day 1 – 8am – Breakfast – 1 hard boiled egg & water
And that’s how it starts. Thank you for following my journey to health and if you have any questions on how you can start YOUR journey to health, please comment below and I will help you on your way!
